Harpers Ferry is named for Robert Harper who settled their some time around 1747.

The Harpers Ferry arsenal was established in 1799.

The engine house (John Brown's Fort)was built in 1848.

John Brown and 21 of his followers attacked Harpers Ferry and the arsenal on October 16, 1859.Found guilty of treason,Brown was executed on December 2, 1859 in nearby Charels town Va.

Harpers Ferry changed hands eight times during the Civil War. The town was captured for the last time by Stonewall Jackson on September 15.1862.

The Harpers Ferry National Historical Park was created on June 30,1944

The park is located in Virginia
West Virginia and Maryland.
